Are you pacing the floor wondering what to do about your kitchen appliances?
You’ve decided to repaint the kitchen and the cabinets. And you’re positive the kitchen appliances will pose an issue with home buyers. Not one appliance has matching finishes.
The white refrigerator passed down from your parents has experienced its share of break-downs, but still runs better than expected. Your top-of-the-line, black dishwasher is such a dream at cleaning. You’re still having nightmares that the neighbor who sold it to you will admit his mistake and want it back. And the professional, stainless steel oven range that bumped your recipes up a notch, has you confident you could beat Bobby Flay at cooking his signature dish.
However, you’ve feeling torn. You want to sell your house without major distractions, but the only fault with the kitchen appliances are that they doesn’t match one another.
Hold onto your puppies. What I’m about to suggest…you probably haven’t already said to yourself… the mismatched appliances have got to go.
Hold on. Before you go into a panicked argument about lack of time or some other good reasons to justify the multi-color appliances in the kitchen, hear me out. You DO NOT have to show the kitchen without appliances.
You have alternatives to drop the love-hate relationship with your mismatched kitchen appliances with one of the three solutions I share below.
Buy all new appliances
Choosing this option is best for a bigger budget. It’s also highly recommended for a luxury home or a home with a newly remodeled kitchen. New appliances are easily accessible online through electronic retailers or your local home & garden centers.
Most kitchen appliances start at $298.00 depending on the type and quality needed. Larger appliances can reach in the thousands. So, if it’s cost effective, swap out the one or two major appliances to match with the one finish that works best for your kitchen’s style and what your ideal buyer expects.
Rent appliances to save
Renting appliances on a weekly or monthly basis works best for the budget-conscious, or you want all of the appliances to share the same brand name. However, you may need to double check the availability with the rental provider to make sure they have the finishes needed for your target date. The rental fees start at $25 a week. However, the delivery and pick-up charges may not be included.
Most importantly, you must disclose to the home buyer that the appliances are not included with the property.
Paint the appliances to match
Applying paint to the appliance may be a bit labor intensive, but worth the savings if renting or buying new appliances seems like a hassle. If you’re planning to use a stainless-steel finish, the paint comes as a kit with the prices ranging from $25 to $69.
If you’re touching up paint for a black or white appliance, retailers offer an epoxy spray paint that starts at $5 a can and up. If you want guidance on how to paint the appliance, check this video from Emily Burn.
